The merger between Azul and Gol will be addressed in a public hearing
Organized by Procon-SP, it will discuss how the agreement could impact consumers.
The Procon-SP Foundation announced that, in collaboration with the Competition and Consumer Relations Study Group of FDRP/USP (Law School of the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto), it will hold a public hearing on May 16 to discuss the potential impacts that the merger between Azul Linhas Aéreas and Gol Linhas Aéreas could have on consumers.
The hearing will address topics that may affect consumers as a result of the announced merger between Gol and Azul. It will provide an opportunity to hear from representatives of the National Consumer Defense System, academics, and other stakeholders interested in consumer relations, according to a report by our associated media outlet Aeroin.
The hearing aims to identify and map out situations that could generate impacts, such as: • – the right to accurate information and communication to consumers regarding the merger process; • – guarantees that flight tickets already purchased by consumers of both companies will remain valid in the coming months and until the services are effectively rendered; • – maintenance of the loyalty programs of both companies according to the terms of existing subscriptions; • – predictability regarding routes and destinations that may be modified or discontinued by both companies, or by the new entity resulting from the merger once it commences operations; • – and other impacts related to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) presented by Azul and Gol.
Those interested in making an Oral Statement during the hearing must register before 6:00 p.m. on May 10, 2025, through this link.
Each participant will have 5 minutes to speak freely, extendable by an additional 3 minutes, to allow as many people as possible to participate.
After the hearing, Procon-SP and the Competition and Consumer Relations Study Group of FDRP/USP will forward the collected information to CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense), contributing to the evaluation of the merger by the regulatory body.
The goal is to ensure that the perspective of consumers is also considered by CADE’s advisors, so that the merger proceeds without harming consumers.
